Adyghe State University (ASU) became one of the centers celebrating Mathematician's Day in Russia on December 1, marking the occasion for the first time. On this day, the university brought together leading popularizers of science along with more than 1,000 mathematics enthusiasts, including teachers, schoolchildren, students, and residents of Adygea of all ages.
 
Mathematician's Day is being celebrated in 2024 for the first time. The initiative to establish this day was originally proposed in November 2023 during the All-Russian Congress of Teachers and Lecturers in Mathematics by Viktor Sadovnichy, the rector of Moscow State University. The initiative received support from the government, and the holiday was officially established by order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The date coincides with the birthday of the esteemed Russian mathematician and founder of non-Euclidean geometry, Nikolai Lobachevsky (1792-1856).

The events in Adygea were attended by employees of the Caucasian Mathematical Center of ASU, along with prominent figures in the popularization of Russian mathematics: the renowned mathematician and Corresponding Member Alexey Savvateev, and Nikolay Andreev, the head of the laboratory for the popularization and advocacy of mathematics at the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a laureate of the international Lilavati Prize. They delivered popular science lectures on groundbreaking mathematical discoveries and celebrated great mathematicians. 
 
Furthermore, the university organized interactive stations and mathematical platforms. For those who attended the festivities with their families, the inaugural family mathematical regatta featured participation from 50 teams. The program also included a round table discussion focusing on the traditions and contemporary challenges in domestic mathematical education.
 
-Russian mathematics and mathematical education have long been recognized as leaders in the world, and they continue to hold that esteemed position. It is crucial for us to uphold this tradition. On Mathematician's Day, we not only celebrate mathematics but also reflect on the history of its development in our country and the remarkable achievements of our domestic mathematicians. For instance, Professor Savvateev delivered a lecture titled “The Origins of Russian Mathematics in Persons,” which focused on the pioneers of Russian mathematics: Leonhard Euler, Nikolai Lobachevsky, Pafnuty Chebyshev, and Mikhail Ostrogradsky,- as mentioned by ASU Rector Daud Mamiy.
 
Let us recall that ASU is recognized as one of the premier centers for mathematical education and holds a leading position in this field in southern Russia. Each year, the university organizes a variety of unique mathematical projects, including the All-Russian competition "Young Mathematician" at the All-Russian Children's Center "Orlyonok," the International Caucasian Mathematical Olympiad, and the South-Russian Mathematical Olympiad "Assara" specifically for girls. Additionally, the university hosts the Summer Mathematical School in Adygea and the student program "Modern Combinatorics and Game Theory," which attracts participants from 68 regions of Russia and 17 countries around the world. In 2018, ASU established one of the first regional mathematical centers in the country: the Caucasian Mathematical Center. Its primary objectives are the development and popularization of mathematical science. As part of the Priority 2030 project, ASU aims to become a catalyst for mathematical education in southern Russia by 2030, generating innovative ideas and modeling practices to create a robust mathematical and digital ecosystem.
