Mathematics and Computer Sciences Department
Dean: Aidamir Kh. Stash, Candidate for {Physics and Mathematics} Sci
Deputy Dean for Research - Timur A. Panesh
Deputy Dean for Education – Oksana N. Malkhozheva
Paperwork manager - Elena N. Meretukova
State-funded student admission figures at the department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences (FaMaCos) surpass any other departments at ASU. Among its research partners the Faculty has leading Russian universities, research institutes and educational centers, such as:
- Stekhlov Mathematical Institute (RAS)
- Lomonosov State University (MSU)
- Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology (MIPT)
and a number of other prominent universities in the south of Russia. Businesswise our students have tremendous advantages as well – the department has ensured the support and cooperation of major research institutions and IT companies, including Special Astrophysical Observatory of the RAS and ITV Axxon Soft – the name for video-display processing industry in Russia.
What concerns applied mathematics and IT educational venues – our department IT team made it to the semi-finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) four times in the last few years. We have our own robotics lab (since 2016), student scientific research conference, mathematical Olympiads and contests.
These activities enable our students to participate in various international mathematical contests with considerable distinction, namely OIIO – Open International Internet-Olympiad in Mathematics – four times first prize winners in the last few years alone.
Our students have a chance for internships, with subsequent employment at the best IT companies in Russia and abroad.
The department has a number of Student Societies and Clubs:
- Department Student Council
- Free computer courses for the retired (taught on volunteer basis by the department staff). The project is in operation since 2012 and had more than 900 students so far.
- Caucasus Mathematical Center (CMC) Student Volunteer Squad
- Algorithmic programming seminar
- Mobile Technologies Lab (Developing OS Android Apps)
- Robotics and Mechatronics Lab (solving problems on adaptive computer control through developing and analyzing images received by a robotic device)
