ASU Hosts an Inspiring Creative Meeting with Composer Vladimir Chernyavsky

A meeting took place between students of the Institute of Arts at Adyghe State University and Vladimir Chernyavsky, a Soviet and Russian composer, conductor, Honored Artist of Russia, and professor.

Vladimir Andreevich is a professor in the Department of Musicology, Composition, and Methods of Music Education at the Krasnodar State Institute of Culture, as well as the Chairman of the Krasnodar branch of the Union of Composers of the Russian Federation. He is the author of over 500 works spanning various genres, including symphonic, vocal-symphonic, choral, instrumental, and operatic music. His compositions comprise five symphonies, three operas, a ballet, and popular music. He has played the balalaika, domra, guitar, and button accordion since childhood, and later mastered the saxophone and double bass.

During the event, the composer spoke with students from the ASU Institute of Arts about his professional journey, the factors that shaped his career choice, and his creative worldview. The meeting took the form of an open dialogue, with students asking the maestro about the influence of a composer's personality on his music, the use of artificial intelligence in his work, and the role of a mentor. Vladimir Chernyavsky emphasized the importance of a teacher in the life of a creative individual and shared memories of his own teachers.

Special attention was devoted to the topic of managing a creative team. "Managing composers is no easy task. Each composer is an individual who requires a special approach," remarked Vladimir Chernyavsky. He also spoke about his athletic background, noting that at the age of 15, he became the Krasnodar Region champion among young men in Greco-Roman wrestling.

The meeting featured musical illustrations. Students listened to excerpts from the composer's works: the duet of the Fly and the Mosquito from the opera Fly Tsokotukha, the third movement of the First Symphony, Horse Races, the work Monuments based on poems by a 14-year-old boy who survived the siege of Leningrad, and Mighty Eagle in the Clouds. The composer also performed a composition based on Gianni Rodari's poems, What Do Crafts Smell Like?, which he created in Stavropol.

The event was organized by Alla Sokolova, professor of the Department of Music and Choreography at ASU. The Institute of Arts emphasized that such meetings motivate students to study and reinforce the importance of artistic creativity.
