The ASU football team Prepares For the new NSFL season

The Adyghe State University football team is in the final stages of its preparations for the upcoming season. Head coach Anzor Gonezhuk discussed the team's recent performance and outlined its objectives for 2026. 

The ASU football team was reestablished in 2023 at the initiative of Ruslan Akhtaov, Director of the Institute of Physical Education and Judo. In a few years, the team not only returned to competition but also emerged as one of the strongest student teams nationally. 

In 2025, the team experienced one of its most successful seasons to date. ASU students secured silver medals at the Adygea Republic Championship and achieved remarkable results in the National Student Football League (NSFL): winning all three matches with a combined score of 8-2, earning first place, and advancing to the prestigious Division B.

"The NSFL press service stated that we conducted a flawless tournament," comments Anzor Gonezhuk. "The current task is to secure a position in the elite and demonstrate that ASU is capable of competing with any university in the country."

The team's roster is updated annually, with graduates making way for new players. Currently, the university's honor is represented by students from diverse disciplines—including physical education and judo, the Faculty of Law, future IT specialists, and students from the Moscow State University of the History of the Humanities and Technology. The search for talent continues.

" Roster rotation is inevitable, but the coaching staff's experience allows us to smooth out any rough edges," the coach notes. "The main thing is to maintain team spirit and give young players who are ready to prove themselves a chance."

The training process is structured with the students' educational activities in mind. On the field, the team maintains its attacking style, which has already become its hallmark.

"We always try to give the fans the maximum amount of emotion, " explains Anzor Gonezhuk. " That's why we've chosen an attacking style, regardless of the opponent. And we tailor our tactical schemes to the game: they depend on the opponent, the players' condition, the weather, and other factors."

The main goal for the upcoming season is to win the NSFL Division B and advance to a more elite division.

The team is also participating in the Winter Championship of the Republic of Adygea—the team is currently among the leaders—and is preparing for the Summer Championship of the Republic. As part of the NSFL, the team will play away matches in Yevpatoriya, Smolensk, and Tver. The final tournament of the league will be held in Maykop.
