Difficulties for foreigners to learn Russian phraseological units were discussed at the International Faculty of Adyghe State University

Education

Adyghe State University hosted a round table discussion on the theme: "Difficulties of foreigners mastering Russian phraseological units".

Teachers and students from Russian and Uzbek universities took part in the discussion, which was held in a distance format: Adyghe State University, the Sochi Institute of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), the Moscow Pedagogical State University, the Uzbek State University of World Languages and the Denau Institute of Business and Pedagogy.

Wearing the moon on his head and throwing stars on his shoulders is not what they say in China about emperors, but about toilers who work from dawn to dawn. What they call "monkey labour" in Russian sounds like "locking the wind in a cage" in Farsi. It is difficult for foreigners to understand what the Russian man means when he suggests "to soak the worm" or "to take the legs in hand".

Phraseological expressions are one of the most difficult topics in the study of a foreign language, but without knowledge of idioms it is impossible to understand the cultural identity of the other nation, its values. Difficulties of mastering Russian phraseological units by foreigners became the topic of the round table, held today at the International Department of Adyghe State University. In the discussion, which was held in a mixed format, was attended by teachers and students of Russian and Uzbek universities from Maykop, Moscow, Sochi, Tashkent, Denau and Termez.

As part of the round table, teachers considered the peculiarities of teaching phraseology in Russian lessons in a foreign audience and discussed methodological problems of teaching Russian phraseology, while foreign students presented an interesting comparative analysis of phrases with the same meaning in the native and Russian languages to the participants of the event.
