Olympiad in a foreign language among non-linguistic faculties of two universities of adygea held at ASU

About 80 students from Adyghe State University and Maikop State Technological University came to test their knowledge of English, German and French with Olympiad tasks. English has traditionally become the most popular language – the competition was the biggest there.

The Olympiad consisted of three stages. At the first stage, participants perform lexical and grammatical tasks. The second stage was in the form of an audition. Students showed their skills of understanding foreign speech.

At the third stage, the jury assessed the skills of public speaking in the language – the ability to compose a coherent message on a specific topic and justify one’s opinion.

The event has been held annually since 2008. The organizer is the Department of Foreign Languages of ASU. This method of testing knowledge allows to identify the outstanding abilities of students of non-linguistic faculties, assess the level of language proficiency and motivate young people for further development. Assignment writers select interesting facts and current topics to show the prospects that knowledge of a foreign language opens up for a person.

- The tasks seemed very interesting. Many moments were a discovery for me. This Olympiad not only tested our intellectual level, but also gave us the opportunity to see where we have gaps, what needs to be fixed, – said Sabina, a 2^nd year student of the ASU Faculty of Economics.

- I didn’t prepare much for the Olympiad, so some tasks seemed difficult. But I liked the Olympics. Solving it, I learned a lot of new things for myself and, importantly, it was very interesting to complete the tasks, – admitted Ksenia, a 2^nd year student of the Faculty of Economics and Management of MSTU.

Based on the test results, the jury determined the winners:
